A solid table made of khaya

We love how the grain of the khaya wood, better known as African mahogany, shows up in this sturdy, rustic baptismal table created for a local church.

Khaya nyasica was introduced to Singapore in the late 1970s and we are happy to find local yards harvesting the timber from felled trees.

A beautiful, moderately hard and durable wood, African mahogany is popularly used as a substitute for genuine mahogany, which originates from South and Central Americas and has been harvested to near extinction.
